Later reflection might lead us to believe that its not a good sign going into a game where your goalkeeper is the joint leading scorer in the squad, but hindsight being what it is, EG were reasonably optimistic going into the local derby with Crawley.
 

70 minutes on, and optimism was a distant memory, with the 5's heaviest defeat in at least 4 years in the books. Scoreline aside though, this was a much improved performance on the previous week's debacle in Chichester, with Grinstead playing good hockey throughout the match. Depending on perspective, Crawley had a 3-0 half time lead through either excellent finishing or some lucky deflections, and as the second half progressed in a similar vein, and EG continued to fail to trouble the opposition's 'keeper, the final result was somewhat inevitable, although some sloppier goals in the last 10 minutes, perhaps excusable in the circumstances, made the score somewhat uglier than it might have been.

The result sees EG slip to 9th ahead of next weeks 6 pointer at fellow cellar dwellers Mid Sussex.
