Men's 3s 0 - 2 Spencer

London League Premier Division

EG Mens 3rd XI made the trip up to south London on Saturday lunchtime to face Spencer who had yet to drop any points thus far this season.

Fully pumped up following captain Horner's inspirational team talk conducted in the bus shelter of Battersea Park, the men in white acquitted themselves remarkably well against a talented and well drilled opposition.

During a torrid opening ten minutes, the home side threw everything they had at EG but to no avail, and as the half developed it was the Sussex team that were controlling the play and forcing the errors from Spencer.

Scoreless at half time despite some extremely generous umpiring in favour of the home team, EG continued to press at the start of the second and were unlucky on several occasions not to take the lead, through our twin strikeforce of Howe and Horne. Matt Needle was again composed and committed in the right of the defence and Will Soutar continued his fine form of late with a terrier-like performance in midfield.

Eventually and unfortunately the home side managed to grab a couple of goals in the last ten minutes with EG beginning to flag noticeably. All in all despite the lack of points this was an encouraging performance from the team and if similar effort and application are displayed throughout the rest of the season the 3's can expect to pick up many more league victories.
