East Grinstead Ladies 2nd XI 6 - 2 Brighton & Hove 3s

Sussex Ladies League Division 2

After losing 2-1 to Brighton in the first half of the season, E.G was determined to get a result today.

Grinstead put the pressure on right from the start, and after 20 minutes were rewarded with a goal from Kerry Turner who received a perfect pass across the Brighton D which she slotted neatly into the back of the goal. A lapse of concentration saw Brighton score immediately, which shook the nerves of goal keeper Anna Warrener who returned today after being out of the game for 5 years.

Good organising in defence by Shirley Cremin had the play up in Grinstead’s favour, and after several attempts Grinstead went ahead with another well struck ball from Kerry Turner. Brighton came at us again; they put the Grinstead defence under constant pressure and finally scored from a long corner, taking the score to 2-2 at half time.

The half time talk from Captain Cremin was short and stern; she wasn’t going to settle for anything less than a win!

On the whistle Grinstead went out with fire in their bellies, totally overpowering Brighton with silky skills from Caz Judd in the centre. Grinstead started passing the ball well and it was Caz Judd who took on the Brighton defence and put Grinstead back into the lead.

Grinstead were determined to keep the lead, this was consolidated by a short corner when Caz Judd stepped up and slammed the ball into the bottom left hand side of the goal making it 4-2.

Brighton found it difficult to get back into the game, the midfield play of Amy Pearson, Caroline Large and Beth Howard kept the forwards in good supply, this resulted in Katy Walters who, being well positioned, scored another goal for Grinstead.

Amanda Hibbett, Emma Self, Frances Needle and Debbie Guiver were solid in defence, and with Captain Cremin commanding from the back, Brighton were kept at bay.

Grinstead finally put the game out of Brighton’s reach when two of the younger members of the team, Amy Pearson and Ella Davis both working hard continuously earned them a goal each, bringing the final result to 7-2.

All in all it was a great team effort and just what the Captain ordered!!!

Scorers: K Turner 2, C Judd 2, K Walters, A Pearson, E Davis
