EG U14 Girls 1 - 6 Tunbridge Wells

Friendly

An early start and the cold conditions did not damp the enthusiasm of our players who valiantly turned out for a 9.30am start.  I knew it was going to be a very tough game as Tunbridge Wells can boast a squad of players five times the size of East Grinstead. The majority of our girls had not experience playing against such a strong size but everyone rose to the challenge and worked hard throughout.

Due to being a little short of players Tabitha resorted to a plea to her brother who is U14 but is not the correct sex to dress in the girls goalie kit and man the goal.  This being agreed with the opposition as well Hector took to the goal and turned out to be our secret weapon.  In the first half the opposition was just a sea of red continually laying siege around the goal mouth however through stout defending and resolute goal keeping we stopped them scoring until 15 minutes into the first half.  A second came before the half time whistle but a two nil scoreline at half time was something to be very proud of.  We too had a  disallowed goal in the first half although this was one of our few attacks.

After a half time team talk we came out in the second half with the sole aim to get on the score sheet.  We had far more attacking chances and we scored.  A beautiful run down the field from Tabitha with a well timed pass to Gina who scored to much celebration.

A 6-1 scoreline was a real triumph for these girls – well done to you all.  Everyone worked hard and you never let your heads drop in the face of adversity – and the most important thing is I think everyone really enjoyed themselves.  Man of the match without question was Hector who made without exaggeration at least 20 fantastic saves.

Next game is a home match against Richmond January 20th 2008.
