EG U16 Boys 2 - 1 Bromley & Beckenham U16s

Mercian Home Counties Colts League South East

Well, the U16’s finally got to play their second league match of the season.  The team and managers have been somewhat ‘jinxed’, but this was not to be the case today or so I thought!  The boys started the game rather late in odd kit, as the manager had been held up in traffic with the ‘away’ shirts ...however this didn’t seem to deter them as they scored through Matt Needle in the first five minutes (by his own admission, a fantastic goal!).

The boys were then substituted one by one to change into the correct shirts and this only seemed to spur them on more, as they created more goal scoring opportunities and half-time arrived with EG leading 1-0.

The early part of the second half saw a more determined Bromley and Beckenham side, hoping to prove to EG that they deserved their spot, second in the league, having only lost one match all season.  Grinstead on the other hand, had a lot more to give and although fairly evenly matched, EG had some good attacking moves in midfield through Keith Turner and Richard Thorne and some excellent defence under the leadership of Matt Needle and Darren Hollis in goal.  One such attack saw EG score their second goal, a great reverse stick shot from Richard.  B&B then put EG under pressure, and five minutes from the end scored their only goal.

A great result for Grinstead and the first of a run of matches in the league.  They play Sanderstead at EG next Sunday 17th Feb.
